There is only one issue left for volume 1 of Legend of the Shadow Clan but before we get there David and Brad put Morgan Himura in the spotlight.  No one does female characters better than Aspen Comics and this new title is no exception.  While the entire Himura family is the star of this book, and rightfully so, Morgan could headline her own book.  This is no small task for a brand new title but the character development in this book has been so strong this Shadow Clan could be a franchise.

This issue continues the flow of the previous one, as everything happens on the same night.  However, the real flow is the kinetic energy of Morgan in battle.  Whether its thorough scripts from David and Brad or a stunning knowledge of martial arts movement in Cory Smith’s brain – I’m not sure.  Either way the result is a rare treat in comics.   A fight that looks like a fight.  No powers, no confusion, just a straight up battle that breaks new grounds and pays tribute to its influences.

As the first 10 for 10 title this year, Legend of the Shadow Clan has set a high bar for the rest of the titles.  In just four short issues, with a fifth and final on the way soon, Aspen Comics has made a new comics family that can stand next to the all time great ones.  We’ve all grown tired of Reed and Sue at various points but I don’t think I’ll ever get bored by the Himuras.
